Bristle worms are good or bad?
« on: January 11, 2011, 05:35:32 PM »
I have a little fuzzy worm that google says might be a bristle worm.  It is in a hole in the rock and during feeding he pokes his head out and wiggles around.  What is the verdict on these guys?  and if they are bad how can I go about getting him out?  are they safe to touch?  how big is it going to get? thanks reefers :)

Bristle worms are OK untill they get huge or their numbers go up.  you should just keep an eye it to see how it goes.  There is a number of commercially available traps also one you can make yourself with soda bottles.

I totally agree with terry.  I've had a few of those guys in the tank and they've never bothered anything ever.  But I have heard stories about 3 foot long worms and I've seen a tank with literally hundreds of them!  not cute  ;D

From what i understand is that there are both good and bad bristle worms. For tyhe most par the ones you find in your tank is a very good thing. They will help keep your sand bed mixed up, also they will help with uneaten food and waste. Please correct me if im wrong but the ones you need to watch out for are the darker redish colored ones. The typical ones you will see are the light pink ones.

bobbit worms like to hide thier body under the sand or in the rock and stick out thier head out of the rock/sand.   they also got a head like a and pincer, and the body is bright red.

fire worms look like bristle worms, but they have a darker colour and more of a "pattern" .
