I don't think this laser is "street legal" so to speak. You could really do some damage with this thing. I have read that the small aptaisa in the tank never came back however, the big ones needed more treatments or a bigger laser. I would not expect this to be in your LFS any time soon. Too bad, I could find a few other uses for the laser as well.

They are legal to buy... at least in the U.S., not sure about Canada.  And they are fairly inexpensive.  Though you are right, they are extremely dangerous.... you need the correct eye protection, and must be very responsible with its uses. The beam is so powerful that you need the safety glasses just to view the beam and focus point, they will not protect you from the direct beam.

The first two are waterproof, not sure if you would actually want to stick it in the tank, but it would reduce the chances of accidentally reflecting the beam off of the tank glass and damaging something in the house or your eyes...

Wow, I just looked it up, I think they are legal in Canada, interesting. I wonder what would happen to the strength of the beam when it goes through water.

The 445nm beams are supposed to travel through water very well, same reason blue light penetrates deeper...  The other laser colors are not recommended due to the fact that the water will absorb much of the light.

I dont think this is just a laser pointer, is it?

It's a laser pointer on steroids.... lol  If you watch the videos in the links, they demonstrate these lasers burning through many different materials...

Browsing through the laser forums you can find find threads from people in the reefing community who have been successfully using 1W 445nm lasers to remove a variety a aquaria pests... Majano anemones, aiptasia anemones, Vermetid snails, GSP, Xenia, Clove Polyps...

I have been aware of lasers used for cauterization during surgery for years, just never knew you could buy such a small portable laser like these. You could do some serious damage to your tank and yourself with these things, more reason to like them, lol.
